Deysha and Deyanna share that having braces together was so much more fun than having to go through it alone. From dealing with rubber bands and wires to navigating the soreness that often accompanies getting braces tightened, the sisters had each others’ backs.
They came to their appointments together, too. Afterwards, they would go home and eat ice cream, watch TV, and play games.
Deyanna says it was so nice to be able to relate to what each other was going through. It was a lot, Deysha agrees, but at least when she ran out of rubber bands she could ask her sister for more!
The twins had their braces on for two years, and got them off right before Christmas when their treatment ended. They got braces put on together, and they got them taken off together—a full circle twin braces experience!
Part of the fun of braces is expressing your unique personality through rubber band color choices. Deysha loves pink, so that was always her go-to band color, though she admits she sometimes reached for silver.
Deyanna loves blue, purple, and green, and says she played with different color arrangements throughout her treatment.
Deysha says wearing braces has ups and downs, but one of the things she remembers enjoying was watching the progress of transformation in her smile and her sister’s. She looks at Deyanna and grins, remembering her previous extra teeth and gum issues and seeing her beautiful smile today. It was a huge transformation, she says.
“To see her smile at the end of her journey—it was shocking. I remember saying, can you smile for me? Can I see it one more time?”
Deyanna recalls being surprised at how fast the treatment progressed. She thought it would take longer to see a difference, but loved how quickly their new smiles took shape.
“Her smile looks really good now. No overbite or anything! It looks really nice.”
