Middle school and high school are notorious for being a time of life when we all want and even need to feel as comfortable as possible in our own skin. Ninth grade Decatur Orthodontics patient Anna is no exception.
Back in middle school, she and her family sought out orthodontic advice about Anna’s teeth. Though you couldn’t really tell by looking at her, Anna had some serious misalignment issues just under the surface of her smile that could seriously complicate her oral health down the road if not addressed.
Anna and her parents thought they were coming in to discuss a simple crossbite issue, but it turned out that her stubborn baby canines refusing to fall out were more of an issue than the family first assumed.
Anna’s adult canines grew in at an angle below her baby canines—so not only were they crooked, but they also were not in a position to ever push those baby canines out.
Anna was going to need oral surgery, then braces.

Anna was most nervous about having braces because she felt self-conscious about how she looked with them. Now that she’s on the other side of the process, she says that she feels so much more confident in her smile. Plus, her properly aligned teeth will help preserve her oral health for a lifetime.
