Leona’s favorite color is green, her favorite animal is a cat, and she loves to run and play violin. She also used to have a pretty big gap between her two front teeth, and a significant overbite as well.
Her alignment issues didn’t bother her too much cosmetically, but she and her family made the decision to do corrective orthodontics to support her long term oral health. If left uncorrected, gap teeth can lead to gum disease and tooth instability—two issues that are detrimental to oral wellness, particularly as we age.
Between her running, her violin practice, and her school work, Leona has a full schedule of activities that she both enjoys and is committed to. Her family moved across town when she started high school, so they had a slightly longer drive to come to get her teeth adjusted, making timeliness a huge priority for all of them. One of the things Leona always looked forward to about her appointments was choosing which color rubber bands she was in the mood for that day. It might sound silly, she says, but it’s fun! Selecting colored bands gives kids and teens a chance to express themselves during their orthodontic treatment process.
Leona loves how confident she feels with her new smile. She shares that she smiles so much more in pictures now—every school photo, every sports photo, every snap with friends. In fact, she says it feels like she’s never not smiling thanks to her beautiful results. Leona says she loves to smile with her teeth thanks to Decatur Orthodontics.
